Boardwalk Empire

Martin Scorsese, Mark Wahlberg, Steve Buscemi, Michael Pitt … and Greenpoint. Yup. Looks like HBO’s next Sopranos will be filming in the neighborhood. The series, Boardwalk Empire, follows the founding of Atlantic City as a gambling mecca — think 1920s style corruption, intrigue and mob violence. The series is Scorsese’s project, produced by Wahlberg, starring Buscemi and Pitt (among others), and involving much of the Sopranos crew, including its writer.

To add to my already tumescent bone for this show, apparently it’s going to be filmed down the street for me. A very nice lackey type told me yesterday that they’re building a 300-foot reproduction of the Atlantic City boardwalk along the waterfront at Franklin and Commercial streets. I can’t even think of what exactly is there right now, other than a whole lot of nothing, but I’ll post pics later should I find evidence of the construction. The show is in pre-production, but filming starts in June, so keep eyes peeled so you can be sufficiently New Yorker style unimpressed when running into Buscemi getting an egg sandwich at yr bodega at 8 am. Apparently Scorsese will be filming the pilot(!), so I guess he’ll be around, too.

The series is based on a book of the same name, Boardwalk Empire: The Birth, High Times, and Corruption of Atlantic City, so maybe I’ll check it out. You can also find news about the show at that last link I posted to the book’s website.
